In any war the normal rules of society are for the most part put aside. In wars people are told to kill other people, something unthinkable, and in fact criminal, in “normal” times.   For the greater good, even a “moral” country has to behave in a manner inconsistent with its values from time to time . The real test of a society’s goodness, its morality, comes after the extreme situation has passed, after the war is over. Does a society continue with the “abnormal” behaviors, oppressing those conquered, or does it return to it’s principles?

To defeat the horrors of the Third Reich, the Allies fire-bombed Dresden and dropped atomic bombs on Japan, all difficult and even regrettable acts. But after the war, the West, especially the United States, proceded to rebuild and make better the countries it had defeated.

The argument of the American Left is usually that “we can’t stoop to the level” of our enemies.  But in this fallen world the question cannot realistically be whether to stoop at all but to what level one can stoop before no longer being able to again stand erect.  In times of danger, those who deign to stoop at all will not live to stand erect, and our enemies, who live permanently stooped, will still be here – and will be in power.

Pretending that we must a all times and in all situations be pacifists or fight with one hand tied behind our backs is suicidal.

My contention is that he does indeed realize this.  Obama and his associates are extremely crafty.  What he has done is throw red meat to the press and to Democrat demagogues, under the guise of the “transparency” he promised, even if it’s only transparency about the previous administration.  All he has to do now is sit back and let the court of public opinion do the work he knows he can’t risk having done in public hearings. 

When the characters have been assassinated, Barack the Merciful will step in and magnanimously refuse to prosecute the “criminals”.  “Move along.  We have more important things to do.  Nothing to see here.”   Yes, nothing but a few ruined reputations and a huge hole in our intelligence service’s ability to do its job of protecting the country.

Perhaps the GOP should call Barack’s bluff and insist on hearings – hearings not just on allegations of torture, but while we’re at it, on Fannie and Freddie, too.  While the Republicans don’t have the votes to combat Obama on legislative matters, public hearings could afford them the opportunity of exposing Democrat hypocrisy, while at the same time tying them up in a distraction.  And if Obama and the Dems refuse the hearings, the GOP can explain to the public exactly why they refuse.

Call their bluff!

Given the thinness of its documentation, and indeed its (non-existent) evidence, compared to the sweeping breadth of its claims, the intellectual quality of this screed marks it as quite possibly being written by what Rush Limbaugh calls a “young skull full of mush” who’s likely still in process of being indoctrinated by disciples of Bill Ayres in a goverment school.   It has to be read to be believed, and while it’s content is nearly laughable, it’s a frightening example of what the Obama crowd really stands for, the Orwellian politicization of all aspects of society, and the ostracization of all who don’t think as they do.

By changing this blog’s name, perhaps I’ll soon be honored by HomeObamaland Security by being placed on a watch list along with other radical rightwing extremists such as pro-lifers, armed service veterans, Prop 8 supporters, and well, Christians in general.

Even as I’ve watched my saving’s rapid decline in value, instead of being overly frugal, I’ve found myself rationalizing my desire to spend.  I’m not spending on big things, mind you, but on items that support activities I enjoy like making music. 

The two rationales I use are:

1) Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow Obama takes all your money.

2) I have a well-paying and fairly secure job, so I should help out the folks who don’t.  Buy those guitar strings from the local music store, I tell myself.  Get a haircut at the barbershop instead of having my wife do it, etc.

I wonder how much of the uptick in consumer spending is the result of one or both of these attitudes.  If any of it is, then in either case, the upticks won’t last too long, and while we’re at it we’ll end up giving the Obama administration a smokescreen of economic “good news” that will enable him to continue to push towards his goal of “remaking” the country.

After presenting scenes showing the acts of ruthless and cruel terrorists juxtaposed with heroic deeds of the country’s defenders, and after making us think seriously about how a civilized society must sometimes respond to such threats, during a commercial break in the action, the producers treat us to what amounts to a public service announcement in which the actress, oops, actor, who portrays the President, tells us, with a straight face, that while what we’ve been watching is fiction, a real threat is actually upon us – and it is … CLIMATE CHANGE !!!!!

While I’m not sure how well I’ll sleep well tonight knowing that tomorrow’s weather may be different than today’s, I will take some comfort in the knowledge that Jack Bauer’s real-life conterpart, Al Gore, is on the job.

Reading it called to mind Alduous Huxley’s “Brave New World” where some people were bred to work and love it, and others were bred purely to love play.

In Huxley’s fictional world neither group envied or resented the other.  But here in the real world, as we head in that direction but without Huxley’s genetic engineering factor, resentment will definitely arise, and only in one direction.

My first thought on hearing of this was to wonder where now are all those who constantly bashed President Bush for his family’s supposed connection to the House of Saud. 

But now that we’ll have an up-front Saudi suporter advising the White House, I guess it’s all good.  After all, he’s a Democrat.

Do as I say, not as I do, is their motto.
